Set sail from Molasses Pier with a local guide and experience a mangrove estuary adjacent to Christiansted Container Port. You’ll head for uninhabited Ruth Island, an artificial island created in 1968 from excavation building the oil refinery. Once there you can swim, fish and explore uncharted island. Sailing is easy and reliable aboard the Hobie Mirage Tandem Island Kayak. Hobie Islands are specially made to be reliable and easy for novice to use – you don’t need prior sailing experience thanks to a single main sail, available pedals and linked two-person steering.

WHAT'S A HOBIE TRIMARAN KAYAK?
The Hobie Trimaran Kayak is a watercraft specially designed for ease of use and navigation. You don’t need any prior kayak or sailing experience, thanks to an easily tended mainsail, pedal power and easy steering functions. There’s plenty of space on board making it ideal for family adventures! The specific model we use is the Hobie Mirage Tandem Island.
$300 per kayak.
Each kayak has a minimum group size of 2 and a maximum of 4 (2 in hull and 2 on trampolines).

Our Ruth Island Castaway Adventure Tour offers a fantastic opportunity for families and groups to get out onto the ocean and discover some of St. Croix’s hidden gems! You’ll be accompanied by a local and experienced guide who’ll be with you as you set sail from Molasses Pier to Ruth Island where you’ll be guided to the best snorkel and swim spots. We’ll venture inland to explore the peaceful south shore beach and its unique flora and fauna, including ground lizards and vast mangroves, we’ll even try our hand at catching some snook and bonefish!
